Program Information

Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Preschool welcomes students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the preschool. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies and other preschool-administered programs.

Readiness

Our program is a play-based readiness program, geared toward helping children gain confidence while learning appropriate social skills. As the children interact with their peers within the preschool setting, their social, emotional, and physical skills mature. These skills prepare them for the years of formal schooling ahead.

Academics

In addition to our emphasis on socialization, our curriculum introduces children to age-appropriate academic skills. Often what is observed as play, is a purposeful introduction to shapes, counting, pattern making, language development, letter recognition, handwriting and reasoning skills.

For Pre-K children who will be going on to Kindergarten, letter recognition and sounds are emphasized. To develop phonemic awareness, a Scholastic Program Flip Chart and CD called ABC Sing-Along is used. Handwriting is practiced daily as the children “sign in”, as well as during letter introduction and the making of an alphabet book. Number recognition, counting and simple addition are important parts of the program.

Bible Curriculum

As a Christian school, we regularly teach the children various Bible stories using a teacher developed curriculum. We say grace and pray with them while instilling Biblical values. Each month, there is a Bible verse loosely related to the themes. The children are not required to memorize it, but many do, just by hearing it repeated throughout the month.
